THE PURPOSE OF THE COMPETITION

Pro Carton Nordica is holding a design competition for forms of cartonboard packaging that have not yet been manufactured or for a clear improvement to or redesign of existing packaging. The purpose is to attract new design concepts for cartonboard packaging and give them extensive publicity.

PARTICIPANTS

The competition is open to all design students resident in the five Nordic countries. You compete as an individual or in a group of two to four people.

COST

Participation in the competition is free.

ENTRIES

An entry can be in the form of drawings or a model/dummy together with a statement of actual dimensions. It must be possible to manufacture the design in cartonboard. The entry can consist of a maximum of 20 percent of non­cartonboard materials (but may contain windows or plastic­coated cartonboard). The sketch/drawing may not be larger than A3 in size and must be presented in such a way as to appear ready for printing. Each entry must be accompanied by a completed entry form and a description, maximum one A4 page in length, of the ideas behind the
proposed design and what its intended purpose is.
In reaching its decision the jury will place a lot of importance on how suitable the entry is for mechanical conversion.
There is no limit to the number of entries per participant. Cartonboard for the creation of competition entries can be ordered without cost.

Descriptions and drawings must be labelled for identification on the back of the paper with name and address of the participant(s).

PRIZES

Three prizes will be awarded for the best new packaging design or redesign of an existing form of packaging:

  • 1st prize EUR 2,000
  • 2nd prize EUR 1,000
  • 3rd prize EUR 500

In addition, the ”Most innovative design in cartonboard”, that is, a creative proposal which is not a traditional form of packaging, will receive honourable mention and EUR 500. The winners will be announced at a prize ceremony. An exhibition of entries will be arranged during the ceremony. The exact time and place will be announced later.

The competition organisers undertake to present the winners in press releases and on the Internet. By agreement the winning entries may also be produced in a small series for promotional purposes. The copyright holder of course owns the copyright and has the right without interference from Pro Carton Nordica to conclude an agreement about the sale of his/her works.

JURY

The entries will be judged by an impartial jury consisting of four members, one from each of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The jury’s decision cannot be appealed but copies of the record of its deliberations are available on request. Family members and colleagues of the jury members are not eligible to take part in the competition.

CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES

Entries must be postmarked by October 30, 2008 at the latest. All entries must be sent by registered post to the following address:

Entries must be well packaged and clearly labelled, including with the sender’s name. Dummies should be enclosed with the entries and not labelled. The parcels should be no larger than a size that is easily managed by one person and can fit inside a normal passenger car.
Entries will only be returned upon special request and then at the sender’s own cost and risk.
